Caring for Jacket Linings, Removable Hoods & Hardware

Proper maintenance for satin and quilted interior linings, removable fleece/cotton hoods, and brass or antique silver hardware.

While leather hide requires specialized care, the interior linings, removable hoods, and heavy-duty hardware of your jacket also benefit from proper maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance and freshness.

1. Maintaining Interior Linings (Viscose, Satin & Quilted Polyester)

  • Spot Cleaning Only: If the interior collar or armholes absorb perspiration, turn the jacket inside out and gently spot clean the lining fabric with a clean sponge dampened with lukewarm water and a drop of gentle wool detergent. Keep moisture away from the leather backing.
  • Natural Airing: Turn the jacket inside-out and hang it in a cool, shaded, breezy room for 4 to 6 hours after active wear to naturally eliminate odors.
  • Avoid Chemical Sprays: Do not spray commercial aerosol fabric deodorizers directly onto the lining, as alcohol-based solvents can penetrate and dry out the leather hide behind it.

2. Washing Detachable Hoods & Fabric Inserts

Many of our bomber and motorcycle styles feature removable fleece, cotton, or knit hoods:

  • Always Detach Before Cleaning: Unzip or unsnap the fabric component completely from the leather shell before washing. Never wash while attached to the jacket.
  • Washing Instructions: Machine wash cold on a delicate cycle using mild detergent, or hand wash in cold water.
  • Air Dry Flat: Lay flat on a clean towel to dry. Do not tumble dry to prevent shrinkage of zipper teeth alignment. Reattach to the jacket only when 100% dry.

3. Hardware Care (Zippers, Snaps & Buckles)

  • Smooth Zipper Action: If a metal YKK zipper feels stiff, glide a small amount of beeswax, paraffin wax, or graphite pencil lead along the teeth, then run the slider up and down several times.
  • Wipe Down Salt & Moisture: Wipe metal snaps and buckles with a dry soft cloth to prevent oxidation from perspiration or rain.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemical Polishes: Do not use corrosive metal polishes or brass solvents, as chemical runoff will stain and degrade surrounding leather hides.
